Meet Jess

Hello there! My name is Jessica Rose - I’m a runner and mama, to William (he’s the cutie in the picture). Born and raised in a small farm town in rural Iowa, I’m forever looking for open skies. The farm life and my parents instilled a hard work ethic in me; I think that’s why running and I get along so well. Growing up with three siblings and a stubborn determinedness to always beat my brothers in sports also helps.

I ran my first half marathon after my then-boyfriend told me I would never be able to do it. I had been a sprinter in high school and thought anything more than an 800 was a painful death. I quickly fell in love with the long distance, the time to think, the endurance it took to complete mileage, and the excuse to procrastinate homework. Making the run from my college town to the next town, 12 miles away many times. I didn’t have a coach and really had no idea what i was doing, I went out each day trying to run harder and faster - looking back I can’t believe how naive I was!

In March of 2017 I started to get serious about my running, My husband (Colton) and I had moved to southern California about a year prior. With perfect running weather year round, I really had no excuses for not getting the runs in! I reached out to an Iowa State University grad about coaching and started to train for a marathon. Three months into training, I found out I was pregnant (after vomiting in a neighbors yard on an easy 4 miler). Morning sickness took over and I had to hang up my running shoes for the entire pregnancy. I missed my marathon and watched as my husband and our best friend ran it. I was incredibly jealous and watching them finish just fueled my fire to come back stronger than ever. February 14, 2018 William entered our lives. March 24th, 2018 I laced up my running shoes for the first time in 10 months and ran/walked an incredibly slow, glorious mile.

Fast-forward to current day: I’ve run 5 half marathons and countless 5k & 10k’s. I’m currently training for my FIRST marathon (Carlsbad Marathon). I’m a RADrabbit (Runner’s & Dreamers) and a Nuun ambassador.
